Grow

We support the people, groups and industries that produce sustainable, environmentally enhancing marine foods, and develop the methods and know-how to better grow all of the species that support them.
Our work includes the development of hatchery technologies for species such as greenlipped mussels, native geoduck clams, pāua and flat oysters/Bluff oysters/tio.  We carry out selective breeding of greenlipped mussels and Pacific oysters for new traits to increase growth and resilience against disease and climate change.   We support development of new technolgies or methodologies for open ocean aquaculture and land-based aquaculture and the diversification of shellfish culture. We carry out research on efficient, precision farming, adding value to existing products and post-harvest processing.  We also research microalgal feeds and feed optimisation.
